Don't feel so bad. Letterboxing must have slowed down all over the Northeast because of the cold. The wind and weather has drifted over 3 feet of snow covering the "Overlook Hotel" letterbox here in our area.  We check on it regularly and see that there are not even tracks leading over to where its  hidden.. Lots of Winter still ahead  and there is a lot of letterbox activity on the chat lines. Wonder how many brave the frigid , icy ,snowy trails in these parts.  We do. We have bought "Yaktrax" for the bottoms of our hiking shoes that keep us from slipping on the ice. They work great! You can walk right on ice with them without slipping.
